We are currently seeking a temporary, full-time Assistant Instructor who is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with a familiarity with the civil engineering industry including practical material testing experience in the areas of soils, concrete and asphalt. The successful candidate will provide support to instructors in various courses throughout the Civil Engineering program, demonstrate and give practical instruction in a laboratory setting, and assist in the delivery of program-related activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
operate civil engineering laboratory testing equipment for areas relating to soils, concrete and asphalt
demonstrate and give practical instruction in a laboratory setting
provide laboratory support to classroom and research activities
work with common machining/workshop tools

Qualifications

A related Diploma of Technology or Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of four years of current, applied North American experience in a construction materials laboratory
Registration with the ASTTBC/APEGBC, or eligibility
Demonstrated experience with soils laboratory equipment and testing procedures is required
Demonstrable instructional skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills and strong problem solving skills
Post-secondary teaching experience an asset
Start Date/Term of Appointment

August 13, 2012 to August 16, 2013 (with the possibility of extension)

Salary Range

$50,126 to $64,294 per annum (Placement based on education and experience; prorated based on percentage of appointment)

The following would be an asset, but is not required:
• 3D modeling in AutoCAD MEP or Revit
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical field
• Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code as well as other relevant codes and regulations.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Visio
• Registration with APEGBC as an EIT
• LEED Accredited Professional designation
• Construction Contract Administration experience
